Sharon Childress McMurtry

September 10, 1951 - November 27, 2009







Sharon Kay McMurtry, 58, of Potomac Landing in King George County left for Paradise on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at Potomac Hospital, after courageously fighting breast cancer for 15 months. She was surrounded by her husband and loved ones.

Sharon graduated from Norman High School in Oklahoma in 1969. She then went to the University of Oklahoma School of Pharmacy, where she completed her studies and began her 34- year career.

Sharon will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit. She continuously expressed genuine concern for others. Sharon's family and friends feel honored to have known her.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence T. "Larry"; her son, Brent E. Conditt of Fredericksburg; her step-son, Jason L. McMurtry and his wife, Jodie, of Prince George County; her step-daughter, Holly R. McMurtry of Midlothian; two sisters, Pamela Pierce and her husband, Michael, Ph.D., of Laramie, Wyo., and Linda Watters and her husband, David, M.D., of Woodland, Utah; two grandsons, Zach and Jake Conditt; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell C. and Dorothy Barthel Childress; and her in-laws, Lawrence R. and Martha V. McMurtry.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, with the Rev. Mark A. Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at the funeral home.
